The Seattle Seahawks may consider adding to their inside linebacker group in the upcoming NFL Draft, despite seemingly finding a solid duo in 2024. Head Coach Mike Macdonald’s background in coaching linebackers could lead him to prioritize depth at the position.
While Pro Football Focus’ mock draft projects the Seahawks to select a quarterback and an edge rusher with their first two picks, they suggest Clemson’s Barrett Carter in the third round (No. 82 overall). Carter is a highly experienced and productive inside linebacker, having played four seasons at Clemson and accumulating impressive stats, including 233 tackles, 33 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, and three interceptions. He also has experience lining up as an edge rusher.
However, the Seahawks’ need for another inside linebacker depends heavily on whether they can re-sign Ernest Jones IV, whom they acquired mid-season. Jones significantly improved Seattle’s run defense. Rookie fourth-round pick Tyrice Knight also showed promise as a potential starter alongside Jones. If Jones returns, the Seahawks might be more likely to use their third-round pick on an offensive lineman.
Although Carter is a talented prospect who could fit well in Macdonald’s defensive scheme, the Seahawks must weigh the value of addressing other needs versus adding depth to a position that may already be strong. The decision ultimately hinges on Jones’s future with the team.
