The No. 13 Tennessee Lady Vols rallied from a slow start on the road to secure a crucial 86-78 victory over the Florida Gators in SEC play. Tennessee capitalized on 21 Florida turnovers, converting them into 24 points, which proved vital in the win at Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
Talaysia Cooper led the Lady Vols (21-6, 8-6 SEC) with 18 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Zee Spearman contributed 16 points, while Samara Spencer recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Gators (14-14, 5-9) held an 11-point lead in the first half but struggled to maintain their momentum against Tennessee’s relentless full-court pressure. This victory marks the second consecutive season that Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell has defeated Florida, having also achieved a win against them with her previous team, Marshall, last season.
First Half Struggles:

Tennessee’s first-half performance was marred by poor execution and officiating. Cooper played only two minutes due to early foul trouble, and the Lady Vols were called for 15 fouls, allowing Florida to shoot 10-for-16 from the free-throw line. Conversely, Tennessee shot only 1-for-3 from the free-throw line and 30% from the field. The Lady Vols struggled to establish their offense, settling for contested jumpers and lacking ball movement.

Third Quarter Turnaround:
The Lady Vols emerged from halftime with renewed energy and focus. Their defensive pressure and improved offensive execution led to a dominant third quarter, where they outscored Florida 37-20. Tennessee shot 50% from the field and scored 17 points off nine Florida turnovers. Jewel Spear led the charge with 10 points, while Cooper added eight. This surge propelled the Lady Vols to a 65-57 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
