Angels Sign Pitcher Traded from Dodgers to Yankees

Left-handed reliever Victor González has found a new home, signing a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels, according to Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors.

González, 29, was traded to the New York Yankees during the 2023-24 offseason as part of a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers that also brought infield prospect Jorbit Vivas to the Bronx. In exchange, the Yankees sent infielder Trey Sweeney to Los Angeles, who was later moved to the Detroit Tigers in the Jack Flaherty trade.

González pitched three seasons for the Dodgers before his brief stint with the Yankees, compiling a 3.22 ERA with 86 strikeouts over 89 1/3 innings. In 2024, he posted a 3.86 ERA across 23 1/3 innings for New York, though his strikeout numbers dipped significantly, recording just 11 punchouts.

Despite limiting runs, González struggled with control, walking 13 batters and recording a concerning 5.95 FIP, suggesting his ERA may have been helped by some good fortune.

Now with the Angels, González will aim to earn a spot in a bullpen that could use reinforcements as the team looks to improve its standing in the competitive AL West. If he can regain his strikeout ability and refine his command, he could be a viable option for the Angels at some point in the 2025 season.
