Hendrickson’s Trade Request Approved by Cincinnati Bengals

All-Pro edge rusher Trey Hendrickson has been granted permission by the Cincinnati Bengals to seek a trade. This decision, confirmed by multiple sources, allows Hendrickson, who led the NFL in sacks last season, to explore opportunities with other teams.

Hendrickson expressed his appreciation for his time in Cincinnati, stating, “It’s been an honour and a privilege to represent Cincinnati over the last four years. I love this city and organization. I appreciate the privilege of now being allowed to explore my options.”

His impressive performance, including 17.5 sacks in consecutive seasons and 57 sacks since joining the Bengals in 2021, has made him a highly sought-after player. This move follows a previous trade request from Hendrickson before the NFL Draft last year, which the Bengals denied.

The Bengals’ decision comes amidst the challenge of managing their salary cap with multiple high-profile players due for extensions. With Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins also needing new contracts, the team faced a difficult task in retaining all three. The recent extension of Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby, setting a new high for non-quarterbacks, has further complicated the situation, establishing a new market value for players like Hendrickson.  

Additionally, the Bengals were already facing the need to bolster their defensive line, as defensive end Sam Hubbard announced his retirement. The team’s decision to allow Hendrickson to seek a trade indicates a strategic shift in their roster management.
