Lakers Overcome Mavericks with Doncic’s Triple-Double

Luka Doncic delivered a powerful performance in his first game against his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, since being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. He recorded a triple-double with 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists, leading the Lakers to a 107-99 victory Tuesday night.  

The game was emotionally charged for Doncic, who was traded to Los Angeles for Anthony Davis three weeks prior. Despite the circumstances, he greeted his former teammates warmly but also displayed moments of intense focus towards the Mavericks’ bench. While his shooting was off (6-of-17), his playmaking was exceptional, culminating in a crucial assist to LeBron James for a game-sealing layup.  

LeBron James provided crucial support, scoring 16 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Lakers secure their third consecutive win and their 13th in their last 16 games.  

Kyrie Irving led the Mavericks with 35 points, and Klay Thompson added 22.  

Lakers fans showed their appreciation for the trade by chanting “Thank you, Nico!” at Dallas general manager Nico Harrison.Mavericks: Max Christie, also part of the trade, scored 10 points in the first half. Lakers: LeBron James stepped up in the fourth quarter to support Doncic on his emotional night.  Anthony Davis, sidelined with a groin injury, received a standing ovation after a tribute video.  Doncic’s triple-double was the 81st of his career, placing him seventh in NBA history, and his fourth of the season. His last triple double with Dallas was on December 15th.
