The Boston Red Sox have bolstered their pitching rotation this offseason, acquiring Garrett Crochet and signing Walker Buehler, moves that should position them as contenders in the American League. However, their offense, particularly the infield, still requires a boost. While Alex Bregman has been a frequently mentioned target, a new name has emerged: Nolan Arenado. According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals have engaged in trade discussions regarding Arenado.
“The Red Sox and Cardinals have had recent communication about Nolan Arenado, source says,” Morosi reported on social media. He also noted the potential impact on Bregman and highlighted the existing connection between the two organizations. Cardinals executive Chaim Bloom, currently an advisor for St. Louis, previously served as Boston’s Chief Baseball Officer from 2020-2023 and possesses intimate knowledge of the Red Sox’s farm system.
Although the Red Sox recently traded several top prospects to the Chicago White Sox for Crochet, the farm system Bloom helped cultivate still contains valuable assets. For the Cardinals, whose farm system is considered weaker, acquiring young talent is a priority as they begin a rebuilding process.
