Worrying Injury for Pete Alonso at Mets Spring Training

A viral video captured New York Mets star Pete Alonso receiving medical attention during Spring Training, clutching his face and remaining on the ground for several minutes. Fortunately, Alonso was able to stand and walk unaided back to the dugout and into the clubhouse.

Reports indicate that Alonso later returned to practice, suggesting the Mets may have avoided a serious injury. However, it remains uncertain whether he will be cleared to play in the team’s first spring training game against the Houston Astros at Clover Park, Florida.

Alonso recently signed a two-year, $54 million contract with the Mets after briefly entering free agency at the end of the 2024 season. He had reportedly rejected a seven-year, $158 million contract offer last May.

“Throughout the entire offseason, we had the best dialogue from the Mets, and that was it,” Alonso said regarding his new contract. “For us, this was the best opportunity for me, and I’m just really happy to be back. This was it.”

Alonso has spent his entire MLB career with the Mets, having been drafted by the team in the second round in 2016.
